 In order to be a volunteer you must attend regular training courses and all prospective responders must undergo an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS) which is carried out by the Ambulance Trust. 

You must be

 

  • Be aged 18+.

  • Have a full and current UK driving licence.

  • Have your own transport.

  • Be physically fit.

  • Be able to attend incidents whilst at home.

  • Have a caring nature and be willing to help raise the profile of the schemes in local areas.

  • Be willing to take part in fund raising and events.

  • Be able to attend monthly training sessions.

The intensive 5 day training course will teach you the following subjects:

  • Basic life support and the use of automated external defibrillator (AED)

  • Oropharyngeal airways

  • Suction

  • Recovery position

  • Oxygen therapy

  • Chest Pain

  • In addition you will learn about:

  • Patient assessment

  • Choking patient

  • Asthma

  • Hyperventilation

  • Reassuring a conscious patient

  • Control of bleeding

  • Fitting patient

  • Allergies

  • Diabetic emergencies

  • Stroke patient
